Lougheed House is excited to share the gardens with you on this free walk. Join Head Gardener Jane Reksten on a tour of the gardens, grounds, and exterior of the grand Victorian sandstone mansion that was originally the home of Senator and Lady Lougheed. Through its many lives, the house and the gardens have been enjoyed by thousands of people, we are delighted to have you experience them too.

Jane has a strong background in science, environment and horticulture combined with a passion for education, writing and public speaking. Her career has been focused in the areas of horticulture and the not-for-profit and small business environment. Jane’s professional career began with getting her hands dirty, as Residential Crew Lead for Perennials Unlimited. Her work as Botanical Education Coordinator, and Manager of Continuing Education at the Calgary Zoo brought her experience in a wide variety of programming as an instructor and program coordinator. At Olds College, she managed the Botanic Gardens and Greenhouses, focusing on facility management, public gardens, and the connections with college programming and the larger community. Besides course content, you’ll find Jane’s past writing published in the Calgary Horticultural Society’s newsletter, The Calgary Herald, and The Prairie Gardener annual publication.
She has also been intimately involved with the creation and development of programs such as Grounds for Change (schoolyard naturalization), Horticultural Therapy training, Community Garden Resource Network, Botanical Illustration, and Master Gardener Training Program.
