About this Walk

Over the decades, writers have called Elbow Park home. Join local author Shaun Hunter for an engaging walk through Calgary’s little-known literary past. We’ll meet a few of the writers who lived here in the first decades of the 1900s and get a glimpse of the fascinating fabric of Calgary’s early literary world. Walk begins at Elbow Park School: 721 38th Avenue SW.

Shaun Hunter is the author of Calgary through the Eyes of Writers, a literary tour of the city from its frontier beginnings to contemporary times. During her term as Historian in Residence at the Calgary Public Library in 2020, she created a digital literary map of Calgary featuring over 500 sites. Earlier this year, she launched “City of Romance,” a map of the city’s 1920s literary world for the U of C’s Calgary Atlas Project. Shaun shares her passion for Calgary’s storied landscape on guided walks, talks, and on her website www.shaunhunter.ca.
