About this Walk
Join us for a captivating Jane’s Walk through the neighbourhoods of Hillhurst and West Hillhurst. We’ll dive into the fascinating world of mixed-use development at various scales. Led by the teams at Civicworks and Intelligent Futures, this tour will unveil the unique texture that mixed-use projects bring to our community, showcasing innovation and diversity in urban design. We’ll make three stops along the way.
Former Legion Site: Our journey begins with a look at a groundbreaking project at the former Legion site, featuring two distinct phases. The first phase offers a new sustainable home for the Legion, enhancing its social functions. The second phase introduces Pioneer, a mid-rise mixed-use marvel, providing diverse housing options and demonstrating a pioneering model of city-building through collaborative partnerships.
19 2: Next, we’ll explore 19 2, a standout mixed-use development in Hillhurst that artfully combines commercial and live-work units with residential spaces above. This project not only sets an architectural benchmark but also embodies the neighbourhood’s main street initiative, engaging actively with the streetscape and embodying community sensitivity in its design.
Kensington Corner: Our final stop is at Kensington Corner, a ‘micro-scaled’ mixed-use development that challenges traditional scales of variety in community building. This site is not just a workspace for Intelligent Futures but also the home of its President
