About this Walk
Bridgeland and Riverside were 2 distinct communities that were settled on the north side of the Bow River in the early days of Calgary. They united and became home to immigrants from many different countries, creating its own unique ambience. In the past few decades this community has undergone “implosive” change and will no doubt continue to evolve. Does it matter if the past is forgotten? Find out how Bridgeland – Riverside is working to honour its past and make new residents and visitors aware of the stories of its people and places.

Walk Leader(s): Deb Lee
Deb Lee has been a resident of Bridgeland for 25 years. She has led weekly walks in the community over the years and has come to learn about the rich diversity of its history. Deb has explored the pathways, streets and less known areas within its boundaries. Change has been a constant theme in the community during Deb’s time here and she recognizes that “progress” may remove all traces of its fascinating past. Working with fellow residents, Deb is finding ways to tell the stories of the people, places and happenings of the past.
